10th Edition of GIBCA Opens September 2019

The 10th edition of Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art opens on September 7th 2019. Keep close for updates on participating artists, venues and opening hours.

For the previous nine editions of the biennial, the project has been mainly hosted by two venues dedicated to presentation of contemporary art - Röda Sten Konsthall and Göteborg konsthall. If in Gothenburg before the biennial opening, enjoy the contemporary art presentations here.

Röda Sten Konsthall is the organiser of GIBCA

Röda Sten Konsthall, the main venue of GIBCA, is located at the harbour entrance of Gothenburg and under the Älvsborg Bridge. It is one of the most original sites of the city, where urban splendour meets the Swedish west coast landscape. Röda Sten Konsthall is situated in an old boiler house now converted into a contemporary art gallery with a popular restaurant and bar.

Göteborgs Konsthall

Göteborgs Konsthall is a well-known institution in Gothenburg’s cultural scene. The gallery was built already in 1923 and is accommodated in a classicistic brick building at Götaplatsen, at the top of Avenyn. An average of five exhibitions of contemporary art are on show here annually and every other year the art biennial is a returning guest.

Göteborg Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum is the oldest museum in Gothenburg. It was established 1833 and was based on the natural collection from the Royal Science- and Knowledge Society. The collections of the museum cover approximately 10 million of animals and the permanent exhibition present a wide range of fauna. This year, for the first time, the museum will be introduced as one of GIBCAs exhibition venues.
